Windows XP not shutting down in VMWare Fusion
Posted on 26. Jun, 2009 by john in Everything, Technology
I came across this article today while looking for a solution to the fact that I could not shut down Windows XP in VMWare Fusion on my Mac. Windows XP was logging in but than just showing the background image and never loading up anything else. I tried sending ctrl+alt+del multiple times and doing a shutdown or restart guest from VMWare to no avail.
Problem:
The [Shut Down Guest] option from the virtual machine menu would NOT work.
It stated that the script could not be run and if I had changed it then… yada yada…
Solution:
When the [Virtual Machine] menu is selected hold down the option key on your keyboard and the [Shut Down Guest] option will change to simply [Power Off] which is essentially like giving the computer the “one-finger salute” (that is holding down the power button until it goes off).
Problem Solved!
Moving on…

I was going nuts trying to figure this out… Why "Power Off" isn't a standard option, I'll never know. Thanks!
