Jesus from the line of Leah, not Rachel?

As I read through the bible I realized that the line of David and therefore Jesus comes from Jacob’s wife Leah and not Rachel. See Genesis 35:23 http://ref.ly/Ge35.23
I’ve heard the story of Jacob and Rachel (the mother of Joseph and Benjamin) a lot in church, but never realized that Jesus comes from Rachels older sister whom Jacob didn’t want. Very fascinating.
