How many hours a day do you sleep?

I am finding in my older age that rest is EXTREMELY important.  Not just a suggestion or nice thing that we get on Saturday, Sunday or some other day of the week.  God talks about the sabbath and rest a lot in the bible, and simply put, it is not without reason.

It is so difficult for me to go to bed if I am not tired ‘per say’.  However, when I consider the time I woke up in the morning I can clearly tell when I should be heading to bed, yet I still stay up until I am exhausted sometimes.

Reasons why I stay up until I’m exhausted…
  • I want to do the things I couldn’t do during the day because of work.
  • I don’t “feel” tired at the moment.
  • I am inspired to do something at that moment.
  • I feel like I “need” to do something because of commitments I have made without considering the time involved.
  • I feel a need to “keep up” with others, so therefore I need to get things done.
Reasons why I should go to bed instead…
  • God values rest.
  • I don’t need to “catch up” to anyone because God made me who I am and if I am going to make a notable difference in this world it will be me simply “being me”.
  • Feeling tired doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with going to bed?
  • Just because I made too many commitments doesn’t mean I need to make the situation worse by depriving myself of sleep.  I need to say no to more things.
  • I feel inspired……………… hmm, that is a really hard one to tackle since I feel like that inspiration comes from God for me in most cases.  I guess I don’t really know how to address that one.  I suppose if I get in the habit of resting more appropriately this point will resolve itself.  Not sure.
  • I need to remember that my job is going to take up the bulk of my time whether I like it or not and I just need to deal with the fact that dreams I might have may need to suffer?  Not sure about that one either.
And I say this knowing that I consistently get anywhere from 5 – 7 hours of sleep every night.
What about my friends/readers out there, do you value sleep and see its importance? Do you feel like I am completely wrong on this… why?

I love sleep. I must have between 6-8 hours per day and average a steady 7. If I get any less or more I feel tired the entire day. I'm not sure I understand why I feel tired if I get more, but I do.

It is good that you have found this out! Sleep is very important for stress relief, good health and a whole mess of other things. :)
