How do I find my iChat conversations?

iChat, by default, does not save your text conversations, but it is EASY to enable.
Here is how to enable this feature…

  • Open iChat preferences.
  • Go to the Messages section.
  • Check the box to automatically save transcripts to…
  • Choose a location to save the transcripts to.

All your chats will be saved to the specified location organized by date and username.

To easily find your previous conversations…
type in the user’s name or any text from the conversation in spotlight which is easily accessed with the [ + Spacebar] shortcut.

With this feature enabled you can avoid having to send emails back and forth to save conversations.  You can now have a quick conversation with someone and get written confirmation of decisions made by a simple chat.
